You do not have to be your mother unless she is who you want to be.
You do not have to be your mother's mother, or you mother's mother's mother, or even your grandmother's mother on your father's side.
You may inherit their chins or their hips or their eyes, but you are not destined to become the women who came before you, you are not destined to live their lives.
So if you inherit something, inherit their strength.
If you inherit something, inherit their resilience.
Because the only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.

Excited. . .

Hours go way too slowly... I'm way too excited. My flight for California leaves in under 12 hours. I didn't have time to take a unisom so now I'm wide awake. It's late... I want to sleep... But the place I was destined to be at is waiting for me and I know it's excited too.
In my early childhood I didn't think there was anything wrong with Minnesota. Until I was older and understood the beauty, wealth, and happiness that California had to offer. It's amazing to me that one place in the world can be so beautiful and hold everything I want. It's perfect. For 200 years California has coaxed millions of people to it's golden coastline. And I will someday be one of them. I already know I'll be going to school in either Malibu or Thousand Oaks, I already know my house will be just north of Santa Barbara and 15 minutes inland, and I know Minnesota will forever remain in my rearview mirror but I won't look back.
Paradise is calling my name... But so is my pillow. I guess I'll have to choose that first...
